Guasha
Guasha is an ancient Asian technique to remove
lactic acid from your muscles. Lactic acid can build up as
a result of trauma or injury, repetitive use, stress and tension,
or improper posture This build-up of lactic acid is what often
causes muscle soreness or tightness. Guasha is very effective
for this type of muscle pain, and is an excellent treatment
for headaches, whiplash and muscle spasms.
Guasha uses a special oil and flat scraping
tool to rub over the problem muscle area. This process draws
the lactic acid out of the muscle and up below the surface
of the skin where the circulatory system can get rid of it.
After guasha treatment, it is typical to have deep red dots
where the lactic acid has worked its way out of the muscle.
You can move it along quickly by drinking plenty of water
and soaking in a whirlpool or an Epsom salt bath. Frequent
stretching, a low acid diet and practicing correct posture
will keep it away.
Guasha can be used in combination with acupuncture,
laser, or acupoint stimulation therapy. In most cases, we will
only use this procedure once or twice on a single condition.
Your MPTC practitioner will decide if you are a candidate
for guasha. |
